Whilst a lot of the information I am post on here is about how to actually build a free cloud data platform for yourself there is also some good training out there. Whilst you will need to pay to get access a lot of places want to entice you in with certain bits for free. In the data engineering space a popular option for training is places with hands on labs. With the rise of these cloud platforms training providers are able to spin up mini instances with lots of restrictions and allow you to do hands on training without fear of using something outside of the free tier.
As I said most of this training is not free, I did a trial month at Whizlabs and got myself a certification on Snowflake and AWS with hands on experience using their sandbox areas. Honestly despite finishing that course I don't feel like I learnt a huge amount, the labs were too regimented and the trainers were not overly engaging. If money were no object I would give A Cloud Guru a go but I am looking for free materials.
One site that sits somewhere between the above 2 provides in terms of their standard pricing model is cloud academy, however they seem to offer some courses for free, even some with hands on labs (assuming I understand the site correctly). So I am going to have a go at the Entering the AWS World training and see what it is like. On the face of things it is a 12 hour training course with 5 hands on labs.
The training so far seems better than most of the other training I have come across, it is clear and concise and I feel like I am learning more about AWS than I have previously. I can't go into detail on what you learn or the training as that is what their site is for. There are some useful links though that I can share.
Amazon main compute page - https://aws.amazon.com/products/compute/
AWS Shared Responsibility Model - https://cloudacademy.com/blog/aws-shared-responsibility-model-security/
I will try and post some updates if and when I come across anything really useful. I will admit that I find training like this, online with videos, hard to follow, I much prefer hands on coding and experimentation like I am doing for most of this free project.
